Get Your FFL
Step-by-step guide to getting your own Federal Firearms License
Course Description
This course walks you through every step to get your own FFL. Unlike other guides, however, it doesn't just tell you the steps to fill out an application. Instead, this RocketFFL course also educates you about the many requirements of getting an FFL and it helps you make some important decisions along the way. In other words, it helps you to get your license the RIGHT way!
This course has seven chapters, each with their own lessons. For a full break-down of the contents of this course, see the Curriculum below. The seven chapters are:
Each lesson in these chapters is broken down into an easy-to-digest way. Most of the lessons have videos at the top of the page that can help explain/supplement the information you'll be reading. Let's face it, some of us learn better by seeing and hearing someone explain something to us instead of reading it.
If you'd like to sample some of the lessons, I've made them free for you to review - just click on the free trial button above! You can check out lesson 1.3 Background for an example of important, but dry, information distilled into just what you need to know. You can review lesson 1.4 FFL Types if you're still wondering whether an FFL is right for you. And, you can preview lesson 2.2 Prohibited Persons to learn what types of people can not have an FFL. If you fit into one of the categories discussed in that lesson, you won't be able to get an FFL.
Add the Become an SOT (class 3) Course
You should seriously consider becoming an SOT along with getting your own FFL. Having an FFL is the first step, but you're likely to want to become a Special Occupational Taxpayer (SOT) later so that you can deal with NFA firearms (silencers, full-auto machine guns, short-barreled-rifles/shotguns, and more). If you bundle this guide along with the Becoming an SOT guide now, you only spend $9.95 more than this guide alone and you save $30! Get both guides together HERE.
Here's a note: notice that the guide is titled "Becoming an SOT" and not "Getting Your SOT." This is because an SOT is the type of taxpayer you become, it is not a thing that you "have" like an FFL. When others talk about "getting an SOT" or they "have their SOT," it's a sure sign that they don't really understand what is going on. Also, "Class 3" is one of the types of SOT you can become (dealers). Another type is "Class 2" (manufacturers). There's no such thing as a "Class 3 firearm!" Instead, that NFA firearm was made by a Class 2 SOT and is sold by a Class 3 SOT. These are just a couple of the many indicators that you're getting accurate professional information from RocketFFL.
Follow-up With Training
This course provides you with a LOT of firearm compliance information - all of it created by an actual firearms attorney! In addition to the education you'll receive in this guide on the many requirements to getting your FFL (Individual Requirements in Chapter 2 and Business/Entity Requirements in Chapter 3), you'll also receive basic firearms compliance training in Chapter 5, Basic Firearms Compliance. This chapter has five lessons:
Even with all of this training, it's still not enough to truly master firearms compliance. RocketFFL offers follow-on firearms compliance training courses that dive deeper into each area of FFL compliance. For example, this guide discusses the need to maintain an accurate Acquisition & Disposition (A&D) record and introduces the core requirements in the lesson on Record Keeping Requirements. However, the follow-on course on ATF Compliance teaches you many of the nuances of keeping an accurate A&D record that takes an entire Chapter to discuss.
This is not an attempt to make you pay for the whole story. You're already getting more and better information than you can get anywhere else! Instead, it allows you to get your FFL and get started off on the right foot. Once you're ready to take, or have an employee take, a course in professional-level compliance training, we're here for you!

Read MoreI read the sample chapters on this course before purchasing it and I immediately saw that it contained the information that I needed. It clarifies and exemplifies stages of the whole process in a clear and consistent and reader friendly manner. Although the author mentions different parts of ATF regulations he makes everything easy to understand. This is by far the best resource I have seen on something that can be intimidating for many of us. The website runs as it should and the whole process is amazing. Thanks Ryan for all the valuable insight and for sharing your many years of experience!

Read MoreRocket FFL's step by step approach to understanding and applying for your FFL is by far the best internet resource available. I wish I had discovered RocketFFL.com prior to completing my application. I had gone as far as to sit down with my local CLEO and we attempted to make sense of some of the paperwork together. Admittedly our Sheriff had not dealt with the paperwork personally either, so this was a learning experience for both of us. Ryan's walk through approach is well thought out, has great attention to detail, covers topics regarding the laws and regulations (GCA, NFA), and answered all of the pertinent questions right up front. Once providing you with the necessary background he steps you through filling out the paperwork and even goes over how to mail it. If that wasn't enough he provides the ATF forms online (keeping handwriting to a minimum), and has put together a full application kit complete with postage paid, addressed envelopes if you desire. Coupled with course work for SOT and ATF Compliance - Rocket FFL is going the extra mile to ensure your success as a Federal Firearms Licensee.
